Dorothya C. Shuler, Cofounder

Dorothya C. Shuler is proud to be a co-founder of Ladies Around The Globe. She is also proud to be born and raised in the beach side city of Hampton, Virginia where she graduated from the home of the Crabbers, Hampton High School, in 1997. Dorothya attended Virginia Commonwealth University, to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting, while also serving as the student secretarial assistant to the Vice Provost for Student Affairs.

 

As a young single parent Dorothya made the difficult decision to leave school early to focus on being fully present and involved in the nurturing and rearing of her beloved son Bryan. She returned to Hampton, and began work as an administrative specialist, providing all aspects of office support to the Vice-President and Operations Manager at Science Applications International Corporation; the top government military defense contractor in the U.S at the time. This opportunity was extremely instrumental in helping her advance her knowledge and expertise in the areas of business and finance. 

 

In December 2000, Dorothya gave birth to her daughter Shyaisa, who underwent a series of intensive medical procedures in just the first two years of her life. Dorothya decided to resign from her administrative position of five years, and take on the role of being a stay-at-home mom so that she could focus her attention on fully sowing into her daughter, and addressing her special needs. After accomplishing this goal and seeing her daughter thrive exponentially, once her daughter began kindergarten, Dorothya set out to pursue a fulfilling career as a cosmetologist, specializing in maintaining healthy hair. After five years of specialized training and education, she made a successful transition to self-employment for the next 11 years as a practicing cosmetologist.

 

In 2014, Dorothya’s leadership prowess was noticed by individuals in the local political circuit. She was invited to work as a political consultant performing multiple roles and contributing to all operations of and administration for extraordinary and highly successful campaigns. This included  duties as a campaign manager, field director and campaign coordinator, for individuals seeking election. She continues this work in various capacities throughout Hampton and Newport News, VA. Additionally, Dorothya provides administrative oversight for several nonprofit community youth organizations, and she serves as an active board member of two, The Heart Of Giving, and Nehemiah House. 

 

Despite her many successful accomplishments, Dorothya has always wanted to return to school to complete her degree in accounting. She is currently pursuing it, while simultaneously working in broadcast media, as radio co-host on the newly successful, Emerge The Radio Show,  and she is also committed to her role as co-founder and leader in Ladies Around the Globe (LAG), an empowering group for fellowship and support for women.

 

Dorothya knows that her close relationship with Jesus Christ has been, and will continue to be, the solid foundation in her life that she is blessed to consistently build upon. She is thankful to be the recipient of all of the promises of God’s word - love, joy, peace, contentment, and victory!
